History
The Fine Art@Hale Exhibition was the brainchild of Headmaster John Inverarity who, in 1993, was looking for an event that welcomed Old Boys back to the school and which would simultaneously work to enrich the life of the school. You can read more about the origins of Fine Art@Hale and its inaugural Director, Garry Zeck in our BLOG.
Since its inception, the annual exhibition has showcased the work of emerging and established Western Australian artists across a range of creative media. The exhibition has become a highly anticipated annual event on the Hale School calendar that provides current Hale students, Old Haleians, Hale families and the wider community an engagement with the visual arts and professional artists in an educational environment.
Beyond the exhibition, Fine Art@Hale directs all its proceeds towards a programme of scholarships, prizes, activities and visual art purchases at Hale School which provide opportunities for on-campus engagement with the visual arts, artists and the creative process.
A notable development of the exhibition was the introduction of Artist Awards as part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations in 2017. Unique in a Western Australian school based art exhibition, the committee acknowledges the tremendous work brought to the exhibition by our selected artists, and hopes that these awards continue to encourage excellence in visual arts.
Fine Art@Hale Committee
The Fine Art@Hale Committee is an entirely volunteer group, comprised of Hale School parents – some with qualifications in the industry, some practicing artists – but ALL with a passion for the visual arts, and a desire to continue building on the traditions of fine art at Hale School.
Each committee member brings a different skill set to our operations to help plan and stage the annual exhibition, as well as implement the wider objectives of Fine Art@Hale’s mission statement. From time to time, there are vacancies in the committee which are advertised in the Hale School newsletter.
Past Committees
In its 32 year history, over 100 volunteers have sat on the Fine Art@Hale Committee, and many more volunteers have joined our ranks to help set up and deliver the annual exhibition. Each one of them has contributed to make Fine Art@Hale an integral part of the Hale School calendar and campus, and a wonderful community celebration of the visual arts.
